How Does Your Washing Machine Work?

This is not a case of over-curiosity, you just want to know exactly how the washing machine gets to wash your clothes since all you do is load your dirty clothes into the washer, add detergent and push some buttons and everything from washing, rinsing and drying is handled.

How Does Your Washing Machine Work

You are not alone in this and it doesn’t mean you are weird, you deserve to know and we will help you with that.

When you want to wash you separate the dirty clothes into batches, you separate the white clothing from the colored, the light clothing from the heavy clothing and then you load them into the washer.

It is now left for you to select the right settings according to the batch of clothes you want to wash so that the clothes will not get ruined maybe shrink or get discolored.

Most of the washing machines in the market today have made this very easy and it is not complicated at all.

So all you have to do is choose the right temperature and the right washing cycle and make sure that you are using the right detergent, the washing machine will then do its job and you will get your clothes sparkling neat.

Now let us talk about the process proper

When you have loaded the clothes into the washer and set the washing cycle, the door of the washing machine gets shut and stays that way until the washing machine has completed the washing cycle that you selected or until you stop the process.

The water flows into the machine from the water hose connected to the machine. Before the water gets to the drum where your clothes are, it passes through the soap box and washes the detergent into the drum as well.

Of course you do not need to worry about the water being too much because the machine comes equipped with a level switch that will stop the water from coming in once it has gotten to the required level.

When the water has gotten to the required level it gets heated to the temperature that you selected with the wash cycle. The washing machine normally has a heating element in the drum that heats up the water to how you want it. There is a thermostat to control the heating of the water and the water temperature.

After all these have been handled, the washing commences. You’ll notice that the drum will start turning in one direction, in some cases after turning in one direction for a while it stops and starts turning in the opposite direction all by the means of a drive motor and belt system.

The speed of rotation and the duration differs from one washing to the other as well as the wash cycle and other settings you selected before the wash began.

When the wash cycle is completed, your clothes are properly washed, the next thing to do is to drain the water from the drum. The washing machine is usually fitted with an extract pump under the drum so that the drain function can be achieved.

Even after you have drained the water from the drum, your clothes will still be wet and it is now time for spinning. This will cause the drum to rotate very fast and remove the moisture from your clothes. The excess water will still be drained the same way as when the water was much.

All is now done, the door of the washing machine can now be opened and you can get your clothes, all properly washed.
